Under the new regulations, domestic workers are eligible to transition to private sector positions provided they satisfy specific criteria, including:
- approval from the current employer under whom the domestic worker is registered to transfer.
- the domestic worker must have resided with the current employer for a minimum of one year.
- a transfer fee of 50 dinars is applicable, along with an additional fee of 10 dinars for each year of service
The decision underscores the government’s commitment to standardizing and formalizing the movement of domestic workers. By setting clear guidelines for transfer procedures, the authorities aim to mitigate potential challenges and streamline administrative processes related to domestic worker employment changes.
Authorities responsible for overseeing labor affairs have been instructed to enforce the provisions of the decision diligently. This directive reflects Kuwait’s ongoing efforts to improve the regulation of domestic labor, fostering a balanced approach that safeguards both the rights of domestic workers and the interests of employers in the private sector.
