Some can be overhyped and overrated, leaving you feeling disappointed and underwhelmed.
However, for each one like that, at least another two or three will blow you away – but how do you separate the good from the bad from the ugly?
Luggage storage expert Stasher has just revealed some of the world’s best and worst tourist attractions in a new report that could help you do just that.
Stasher ranked 99 different global tourist attractions using a wide range of metrics such as user experience via reviews on Google, quality of accommodation, proximity to international airports, safety, and popularity of TikTok to give each one a cumulative score out of 10.
The results threw up some interesting locations – some you would expect, and a few others that may surprise you.
Here are the top five:
Parliament Building, Budapest, Hungary
Think of the romantic European city of Budapest in Hungary and you probably imagine a beautiful scene that includes the number one rated tourist attraction in this study.
The Hungarian Parliament Building, with its intricate dome and many ornate towers, sits on the banks of the river Danube and has become an icon not only of the city and the country but also of the world.
Constructed between 1885 and 1902, the building borrows Baroque, Gothic, and Renaissance styles and can be visited on 45-minute guided tours.
Disneyland Paris, France
One of Europe’s most popular family attractions for the last 30 years, Disneyland Paris offers a little slice of magic just 25 miles or so to the east of one of the most romantic cities in the world.
The two parks here – Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios – offer fun and excitement for all the family with year-round opening and events, much like counterparts in the United States.
Scoring well on safety and ease of access, Disneyland Paris is an attraction that will seemingly never go out of style.
Blue Lagoon, Iceland
The steamy, healing waters of the Blue Lagoon in Iceland have become a major hit with travelers in recent years.
As well as the warm waters themselves, the lagoon is surrounded by boutique hotels and luxury spa retreats that offer the very best of pampering.
But beware, Iceland is a wild place, and Mother Nature can have a hand in derailing your plans when visiting – the Blue Lagoon was recently closed temporarily due to an increase in volcanic activity in the area.
Luckily, we have the important things you need to know about visiting Iceland covered.
Plaza de España, Seville, Spain
Well regarded as one of the top international destinations, it’s perhaps no surprise that the Spanish city of Seville is home to one of the world’s top attractions.
The Plaza de España is a wide-open square in this sunny city that features beautiful pavilion buildings, ornate towers, a small moat that you can hire boats on, and a series of 48 mosaics that represent 48 of Spain’s provinces.
It’s a must-see if you ever visit this part of Spain’s stunning Andalusia region.
Angkor Wat, Cambodia
The Angkor Wat temple complex is so synonymous with Cambodia that it’s even on the nation’s flag.
Built by the ancient Angkor civilization, this incredible ancient city is instantly recognizable and was even used as a setting in the movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.
Close to the action-packed city of Siem Reap, this Cambodian icon should be on every traveler’s bucket list – and winter is one of the best times to visit.
And what about the worst?
It’s sad to say but an iconic attraction in the United States took the crown of worst tourist attraction in this report: the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles.
It managed just 3.42 out of 10 in Stasher’s ranking and also claimed the same unwanted crown when the company conducted a similar ranking in 2019.
Second worst ranked was the Grand Bazaar shopping mall in Istanbul, Turkey, while third worst spot was taken by the world-famous Taj Mahal in India.
It seems like some tourist attractions can become victims of their own success.
