Tales of friendship, moralities, the forgiveness of self and others, grief, love, found family, monsters and gremlins, and everything in between takes the shape of four cast-away teenagers who become saviors of “the broken, the beaten, and the damned” as they learn the ways of life and how sometimes we all get some kind of haunted in Neil Gaiman’s supernatural comedy series ‘Dead Boy Detectives,’ originally a part of the Sandman universe comics and now a Netflix series by the same name.
A wasteland town inhabited by a certain Cat King, a witch who has been deluding Lilith’s faith for decades, and a whale in the form of a shopkeeper of a metaphysical shop becomes our paradise for today’s adventure.
Join Wego as we unravel the real places where the afterlife’s finest hang out in the reel Port Townsend.

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
The country of Canada essentially sets the scene for Port Townsend, Washington. Although Port Townsend is a real place, it is Vancouver in British Columbia, and its charming landscape graced our screen to give us glimpses of the wonderful land of Dead Boy Detectives.

Whytecliff Park
Located near West Vancouver’s Horseshoe Bay Neighbourhood, it is easy to imagine oneself entering a portal to another universe amidst the mountains and rugged coastline of Howe Sound in West Vancouver when visiting Wytecliff Park. Dense forest, a nearby rocky-sandy beach with boats passing by, and a hiking trail – you can find almost every element needed for a supernatural-esque adventure here.
The Park is home to more than 200 marine animal species and is Canada’s first Marine Protected Area.
Wytecliff Park has two sections. The upper section consists mostly of hiking trails, whereas the lower section consists of a tranquil beach area. As you explore the hiking trails, you will spot an unmissable small trail climb up the hill with an unmarked set of rock stairs, which will give you a view of Batchelor Bay, albeit obstructed by trees now however, a view of passing boats and Howe Shore, as the cool mountain wind and clouds create an unparalleled scenic atmosphere, make the hike up the trail worth it.
We recommend checking the tides before visiting Whytecliff Park. Visiting it during low tide will reveal another idyllic facet of the beach, otherwise hidden underneath the waves. When the tides are low, you can actually walk along the rocks to Wytecliff Island and climb to its peak from the western side of the beach. Along the route, you will even find several benches to sit and enjoy the view and even a picnic table if you are lucky.
Sheringham Point Lighthouse
Sheringham Point is located along the coast of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, which connects the Salish Sea (Georgia Strait and adjoining areas) to the Pacific Ocean. Scenes that gave us glimpses of the view from the top of the Lighthouse, even though they are in HD, pale in comparison to actual visits to the Lighthouse.
The rocky coastline bejeweling Sheringham Point is famous for its jagged beauty as it is filled with numerous small coves, craggy cliffs, cobble beaches and a near-impenetrable forest cover. Strong currents accompanied by wind wash the shore as they crash over the rocks and lighthouse structure all year round, painting a bewitching landscape worthy of being a muse.
Sheringham Point Lighthouse played an acute role mid-season in Dead Boy Detectives and is an equally important lighthouse in real life. For over a century, it has served as “a beacon of hope and salvation” for the people of Sheringham Point on Vancouver Island.
In real life, there may not be a siren song waiting for you there, but you can discover many stories of lightkeepers and their families when you visit the Sheringham Point Lighthouse between 9 am and 7 pm. You will be accompanied by volunteers during your visit, and they will happily tell you the story of the Lighthouse. The lighthouse has no entrance fee, but a donation for its safekeeping is suggested.
A walking trail called Jennie’s Trail leads to the Lighthouse. A viewing platform at the top of the site gives those with limited mobility access to the rest of the site for an unobstructed view of the lighthouse, its surrounding lands and the seascape beyond it. If you visit the Sheringham Point Lighthouse in spring, you will be delighted to see thousands of daffodils lighting up the way.
Over 300 species of birds will greet you there no matter your time of visit, and if you look at the water, you might just spy an orca or two, sea lions, or whales.
Forest trails of Langley
The forest trails covering the Township of Langley, located on the traditional lands of the Katzie, Kwantlen, Matsqui, and Semiahmoo First Nations, are incredibly beneficial to the local community and tourists.
Although the forest trail glimpses are all we get of Langley on our screens, the Langley trails present a wonderful opportunity for a weekend away amidst tranquil, serene nature with the best of luxurious amenities at the border homes in various Langley communities.
For instance, the vintage village of Fort Langley is located along the Fraser River, and it features various museums, shops, restaurants, art galleries, parks, and hiking trails, among other things.
Central City Fun Park

As soon as you step inside Central City Fun Park, you will feel like you’re stepping into one of the corners of the Crystal Palace or Niko’s wonderland of manga and anime.
If you can find your way to this arcade in Surrey, you will be spoilt for choices between checking out all the natural parks and art museums in British Columbia. From a skating area lit by fairy lights to go-karting, mini golf, bowling, and VR space, this gaming arena has it all for kids of all ages and for adults to get in touch with their inner child.
The arcade is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 pm to 10 pm, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 am to midnight, and Sundays from 11 am to 10 pm. There is no admission fee, but you have to buy swipeable cards called Fun Cards (pricing starts from CAD 30) from the venue, which will give you access to all the games.
Orpheum Theatre Vancouver
There is perhaps no better place to witness the art that has come out of those who have won the game of chance than at the home of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Over the 97 years, the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Vancouver has played a spectacular scene for all kinds of shows and has been in the background of millions of stories since its inception.
We got to see glimpses of the antique decor, sweeping staircases, and a domed auditorium with ceiling murals and giant crystal chandeliers in bits and pieces whenever there was a scene of hell that trapped Edwin Payne.
Various shows and guided tours of the magnificent theatre take place here throughout the year, and tickets to those events can be purchased from the Orpheum Theatre’s official website.
Vancouver Art Gallery
If you want a glimpse of perspectives drawn out by other people, you have to check out the Vancouver Art Gallery during your visit to British Columbia. Constructed in 1931 in the Art Deco style, the Vancouver Art Gallery now stands west of 1145 Georgia Street. The gallery features various works of art by famous artists and indigenous people. Other than that, art exhibitions are held throughout the year. We recommend checking out the official website of the Vancouver Art Gallery to learn more about their upcoming exhibitions.
We hope that if you are in the Vancouver area, you will follow in the footsteps of the Dead Boy Detectives and find an adventure of your own on your next vacation.
